Parliament

Martel’s voting body is known as the Parliament, a term that reminds most of the British system but is in fact a reference to Martel’s Greek roots. Like the Greek Hellenic Parliament, Martel’s Parliament is an elected representative body that is in charge of all official happenings around the college. Completely student led, Parliament is made up of two main groups: the Executive Council (EC) and the Class Representatives.

The Executive Council

The Executive Council meets on a weekly basis and is responsible for setting the budget, approving appointments, serving as leaders for the Martel community, and working with university staff to ensure smooth sailing.

Class Representatives

The majority of Parliament is composed of the Class Representatives. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors elect four representatives in the spring semester, and the freshman class elects their representatives shortly after arrival on campus during their first fall semester.

Representatives serve as voting members during weekly sessions and are charged with representing the interests of their class in addition to serving Martel with committee participation.

Non-voting Members

These members do not hold a vote in Parliament, but serve other functions at Martel or serve as representatives of Martel to various campus-wide organizations.
