Shay Olaifa
Hey Martel!
My name is Shay Olaifa and I am a sophomore majoring in Political Science with minors in Sociology and Politics, Law, & Social Thought. I am thrilled to serve as your Martel senator for the 2023-2024 academic year! As a senator, my main responsibility is to represent and advocate for Martellians by gathering your thoughts, critiques, and ideas to create legislation that will bring about impactful change. I work with other senators to draft legislation that is then presented to the Senate for approval.
Senate meetings occur every Monday night from 9 pm to 10 pm, and I encourage all Martellians to attend to learn more about student government at Rice University. As a senator, I prioritize transparency and will relay all Senate discussions to the entire college via weekly minutes and announcements (so be on the lookout for these!). My ultimate goal is to ensure that every Martellian’s voice is not only heard but also adequately represented in student government.
