Mission Statement
During the course of DinO-Week 2021, New Students will be welcomed into the Martel family, where their unique experiences are celebrated and embraced. This new family is like a dino pack where there is room for every prehistoric lifeform, from Brontosaurus to T. Rex, to flourish! New Students will be fully included in this pack such that they can shape Martel’s culture, and we truly believe that this week will set students up to make Martel their own. At first, college can feel like a scary dense jungle, but throughout the week, New Students will begin to create their ever-growing network of social and academic support, easing their transition to Rice and turning the jungle into their stomping ground. To do so, our Advisors and Co-advisors are committed to being vulnerable with students and communicating their struggles and joys. We hope that with this honesty, New Students can both see themselves in their Advisors while also feeling comfortable sharing their individuality and forging their own path in the years to come. New Students will leave O-Week with the ability to define their own impact and journey, and no matter how far they migrate from the nest, they will always have Martel as a loving home to guide them.
