As a Chemical Engineering major, David almost always has something he should be doing, but that never gets in the way of spending time with his friends. This senior is super energetic and will always give you the boost you need in any situation

Eddie Ramos/ Junior / Martel

Eddie is a rising Junior in Martel College originally from Allen, Texas where believe it or not, his high school class had the same amount of students as his class at Rice. He is majoring in Biosciences with a concentration in Cell Biology and Genetics which he decided on after impulsively changing his majors multiple times. He is also taking courses in French, so he’ll be happy to practice the language with anyone who’s interested (disclaimer: definitely not fluent yet). When not studying in Fondren Library or waiting in line for an iced nutty bee, he enjoys going out for boba with his friends or practicing taekwondo. He took TKD classes for 10 years and is always looking for others who share his love for the sport. His other favorite activities include jamming to EDM music and watching Grey’s Anatomy. Despite his healthy eating goal, his biggest weakness is going to get sweet bread from El Bolillo on the weekends. He just can’t resist their tres leches cake or conchas (not sponsored). He loves to have a laugh and is excited to share his love of Martel with y’all.

Maddy Howe / Sophomore / Martel

Have you ever wanted an Australian or British friend? Well, with Maddy Howe you get a perfect two-for-one deal. She is a Martel sophomore, majoring in political science and psychology and hails from Perth, Australia. Just ask her to say the word ‘banana’ or hang around for long enough and you’ll easily be able to tell! Maddy has an amazing sense of humor and she isn’t afraid of a little sarcasm, always bringing the joy out in any situation. Maddy is super easy to talk to and always down to do something fun – given her student athlete schedule allows it. As a dedicated member of the Rice Swim Team, Maddy can be found at the Rec sprinting butterfly or freestyle or even in a random state
racing! Just don’t ask her to do anything athletic outside of the pool, she is horribly uncoordinated. (She may have given herself a head injury doing a pull up). Outside of the pool, you can find Maddy walking around campus with her headphones on or in the library, sipping the flavor-of-the-month coffee from Coffeehouse. Maddy is a great friend and someone you can always rely on to have your back in any situation and if you’re lucky enough to have Maddy as your O-Week advisor, you will get to be friends with one of the coolest girls on campus.

Vivian Ellis/ Sophomore / Wiess

You are so lucky to have Vivian Ellis, a rising sophomore (Class of 2023) at Wiess College, as your O-Week advisor! Hailing from Cupertino, California and majoring in Computer Science, this sunny and bright bubbly girl will have as much love for you as she does for Shrek 2 (which is A LOT). She is Viv-acious, caring, and so kind; truly the most supportive person you could ever find, so
know that you will always have her to help you through anything. When she’s not killing the game at comp sci, you can find her a Torque practice (ultimate frisbee), Rice Apps (a developer club), as a part of Dance Theatre, or just chilling with friends in Wiess commons (probably demolishing someone in Super Smash Bros). As you can tell this girl is incredible in every possible way; she’s just the person to brighten up any day. She likes to decompress by nibbling on croutons and cheese (odd but enjoyable combination) and giving out lots of hugs. She loves hugs so much that she even created her own hug chart to better understand everyone’s preference on hugs! So be ready to have a pretty special O-Week because Vivian embodies Rice’s culture of care, and can’t wait for you to get here!
